Effect of ionizing radiation on the colorimetric properties of PVA-GTA Xylenol Orange Fricke gel dosimeters

Abstract Fricke gel dosimeters were prepared using a matrix based on poly(vinyl-alcohol) chemical cross-linked with glutaraldehyde and loaded Xylenol Orange. The samples irradiated gamma rays to doses in the range of 5–30 Gy consequent color changes investigated by spectrophotometric colorimetric techniques. Starting from measurement transmittance spectra, an analysis was carried out considering CIELAB space. It allowed highlight correlations between coordinates dose. Furthermore, auto-oxidation processes occurring studied measurements both un-irradiated at different times, up two-week post-irradiation. results showed no significant differences oxidation effect dosimeters, least dose interval. study suggested that analysis, combined one, can be useful tool for characterizing view standardization dosimetry.
